Titanion Review

I'm going to try and avoid a common hip-hop cliche - 'Can't nobody do it like XXXX does', because I've been trying to be more analytical in my thinking lately and I can't talk in absolutes like that. Maybe somebody CAN do it like Mixmaster does - and people just haven't noticed yet. What I will say is, nobody seems to do it like Kenta Cho does. And by 'it', I mean design great games. To add to the list of ABA Game's fantastic (and free!) titles is Titanion, a static screen shmup in the style of Glaxian and Galaga.
You can start page two of this review by just ignoring everything else I'm going to say and just download the game.
Really. I won't mind. It's 5Mb and it's probably better than... oh... I'll say 70% of the games one can find and play for free. Let's just hit that first and details second. Start your download and by the time you finish reading this review you'll be ready to play.

Titanion is really two games in one. Part old schoolery shooter, part bullet hell with the aptly named 'classic' and 'modern' modes. In classic mode, you take a torrid twist on the Galaga dynamic that you have the capture beam and can steal ships. Modern mode sees you packing monster firepower and aided by a 'provocation' beam which just pisses off enemies so they'll fire more bullets to increase your multiplier. It's a nice change of pace both ways.
Graphically it's remarkably sharp and classy Kenta Cho. As a graphic designer by trade, I'm honestly envious of how well constructed his minimalism is. It's sparse and basic but with tremendous style. The audio is good, but I probably wouldn't be looking for the sound track. Finally the replay is there if this is your kind of title, which for me it is.
Can't nobody appear to do it like Kenta Cho does.
